Quick facts about air ducts and how they hide air quality and mold spore problems in your home, apartment, condo, business office or restaurant. Bactronix’ inspections can uncover invisible or well-hidden problems caused by mold spores.

  • Pets and smokers are among the leading causes of poor indoor air quality. If your home, apartment or condo has a smoker or a pet, you should have your air ducts cleaned and inspected for mold at least every 5-7 years. If there are multiple pets or multiple smokers, you may not want to wait that long.
  • If no pets or smokers are present, you could wait a bit longer between air duct cleanings, but if you are sneezing, coughing or have respiratory problems, you may want to decrease the time between cleanings.
  • If you purchase a home, or condo, remember that home inspectors do not check for air quality. Their job is only to provide a visual inspection of the property. You may want to get your air ducts cleaned shortly after moving in.

Duct cleaning generally refers to the cleaning of various heating and cooling system components of forced air systems, including the supply and return air ducts and registers, grilles and diffusers, heat exchangers heating and cooling coils, condensate drain pans (drip pans), fan motor and fan housing, and the air handling unit housing.

If not properly installed, maintained and operated, these components may become contaminated with particles of dust, pollen or other debris. If moisture is present, the potential for microbiological growth (e.g., mold) is increased and spores from such growth may be released into the home’s living space. Some of these contaminants may cause allergic reactions or other symptoms in people if they are exposed to them.

Bactronix can clean all components of the system and is qualified to do so. Failure to clean a component of a contaminated system can result in re-contamination of the entire system, thus negating any potential benefits.

The “heart” of a home or office building is the furnace while the main “arteries” are the duct system. Air circulating through the duct system can carry spores from house mold or black mold, as well as, bacteria. These contaminants become airborne, contributing to the “Sick Building Syndrome”. This condition can present a health risk, especially to residents and employees with asthma, COPD or other forms of a compromised immune system. That’s why we offer air duct cleaning here in Myrtle Beach.

How is Bactronix different?

Unlike other companies, Bactronix can provide video imaging and ATP testing, to show the before and after duct treatment results.  We use special blowers, vacuums and brushes to clean out the supply, intake and return ducts throughout your home or office. Included in our service is the cleaning of registers, grilles, fans, filters, blowers and the coils of the HVAC system. We maximize the efficiency and safety of your HVAC system.

In combination with the cleaning cycle, we apply our non-toxic, two-step, anti-microbial Bactronizing Process to the entire HVAC system for long term disinfection and protection. This is a vital step after the cleaning process.

Clean air ducts are the foundation for good indoor air quality. Homeowners and business owners want to breathe clean indoor air for themselves, their guests, employees, and customers. Over several years, air ducts can also become contaminated with mold, fungi, and bacteria, as well as dust. Routine HVAC servicing does not remove them. Proper removal with equipment like Rotobrush’s air duct cleaning machines and systems is one way to improve indoor air quality.
